Preventive care that occurs at well baby and child visits is among the most important care we provide in pediatrics. Having the opportunity to discuss and screen for concerns related to physical health, development, and behavioral health allows us to identify small problems before they turn into big ones. Because of this, we follow the well child visit schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. These visits include the newborn visit, 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, and 30 months, then yearly starting at age 3. We feel strongly about the importance of each of these appointments. Therefore, if your child misses 2 or more well visits in a row and we have not received a response to attempts to schedule, we may determine it is necessary to file for medical neglect with the Department of Children and Families (DCF). We will make every effort to work with your family to schedule appointments for your child.
At Pediatric Associates of Hampden County, we understand that many families may be going through the difficult process of separation or divorce. Our focus is on the medical, psychological, and emotional wellbeing of our patients. In order to provide the best care to your children, it is important that these guidelines are followed:
Custody: We will assume that the parent bringing the child to the office has full or joint legal custody and the authority to make medical decisions, view medical records, and schedule appointments unless we have been provided with written court documentation that states otherwise.
Communication: We ask that parents reach agreements regarding major medical decisions before visiting the office as we will not mediate disagreements. We expect both parents to communicate with each other regarding appointment scheduling, insurance, treatment, and plans of care. It is not feasible for us to contact each parent separately every time we see the child in the office or communicate with the other parent. We are, however, happy to receive inquiries about the child’s health from either parent at any time by phone or MyChart.
Billing: Co-pays will be collected at the visit from the parent accompanying the child. If the court agreement states that the other parent is responsible for co-payments, it is the accompanying parent’s responsibility to pay at the time of the visit and collect reimbursement from the responsible party. We will be happy to provide a receipt.
Should the issues that come between parents become disruptive to our practice or impede the care of children, we reserve the right to discharge the family from further care.
We ask that you please remember that separation is hard on children, and your cooperation with each other is very important to your child’s mental and physical health.
As a courtesy to our practitioners and staff, we ask that you refrain from using your cell phones during the appointment visit.
Following health standards, no food or drink is allowed during office visits.
